What is Health

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), health is not merely the absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental and social well being.

Health is a balanced state of mind and body as a whole. If this balance is disturbed due to any reason i.e. exposure to irritants or even when not exposed to any adverse circumstances, it may be considered as a sign of ill health.

However, perfect health is exceptionally rare these days because of many factors, chief among them being a sedentary lifestyle. In the modern lifestyle, health becomes a neglected cause.

The major factors responsible for breakdown of health these days are –

  • Lack of exercise
  • Poor eating habits such as consuming heavily spiced rich food and junk food or food lacking in essential vitamins and minerals
  • Lack of fresh air and sunlight
  • Lack of proper rest and adequate sleep
  • Over indulgence of tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol etc.
Self medication

There is a widespread tendency to engage in self medication for the slightest health problem. Misuse and overuse of medicines causes a lot of problems in the body apart from creating resistance to various medicines.
